Flaming, in Two Parts
Project Type
Poetry
Date
2021
In this piece, the character of the lion was designed to burn out like a star. I wanted to dive into and encapsulate something doomed by fate, which, much like the sun or a wild animal, is something we can’t
control. Much of my poetry exists in liminal spaces, and thus they’ve become a hallmark of sorts for me. Fire and paper abound in this poem, as the beginning is a blank sheet that turns ablaze, words running across the paper like a spreading flame. The poem ends not with ashes, but at the peak of the blaze, as an exploration of the concept of twin flames.
